She has one....ONE individual Olympic Gold.
Sure, the overall medal tally is impressive, but she can't be put in the same category as Bolt or Johnson with that many Olympic final defeats.
5 individual golds at WCs. 5 OGs. Three OG silvers were by the tiniest of margins at the tape.
Bolt was dominant for 8 years and then crashed out. Felix lasted twice as long and had a kid along the way. Their careers are a bit like comparing apples and oranges, but Felix definitely deserves to be on the same mantle as the likes of Bolt and MJ.
The best part of Felix's bronze is that she stood up to Nike and hopefully made a difference for the next generation of female athletes. Having a child should not be an opportunity for a sponsor to get contract concessions from a female athlete.

Countless Americans have won a single Olympic gold medal in an individual event. Most go unnoticed.
Actually, the number could be counted.
How many of those single gold medal winners qualified for another four Olympics, much less earned at least one medal in each. And we aren't talking about a competitor in a fringe sport or fringe event in T&F.
Most career Olympic T&F medals:
Paavo Nurmi: 12
Carl Lewis: 10
Allyson Felix: 10 (and counting)
Merlene Ottey: 9
Ray Ewry: 8
Usain Bolt: 8
There's always one chode who has to bring his negativity and sorry existence into every conversation. No one said she was Bolt or Johnson. Just appreciate what she accomplished and move on. Or start a separate thread with whatever B.S. you want.

5 Olympics, not 2 or 3 ! And started at the young age of 18.
Marlene Ottey went to 7 Olympics. Never won Oly gold, but won 3 WC golds and had a career every bit as stellar
Oh, and 3 children.
that NBC has such lame coverage where they repeat the same point over and over again. She doesn’t produce the NBC coverage.
And, that said, Felix is a hero for pushing for better care for pregnant women. My wife almost died in one of the best hospitals in the country bc the very fancy and credentialed doctors did not listen to her description of her own condition. Might have been bc my wife had an accent and is black but, whatever the case, it was a disgrace to this country that the system put her health at risk.
And Felix is an amazing story for her longevity. like a Cal Ripken or Drew Breese or Vince Carter. Not the GOAT but a Hall of Famer. And nobody really combines greatness and longevity except Serena and Brady.
So everyone except Brady and Serena should simmer down.
Nurmi is the most impressive and it’s not even close. The main reason is that you use up so much more energy in distance events and you don’t have as many options to get medals. There aren’t relays for distance events so the actual opportunity to medal is lower. And even if there were, not enough recovery time.
+1
Thank you!!
No question that the Flying Finn is the GOAT of Olympic track and field - 9 golds, 12 medals total (all individual) across three Olympics. Crazy.
But there is plenty of room to appreciate the other all-time greats like Bolt, Lewis, and yes Felix. Boy was I rooting hard for her down the homestretch today. The title of this thread is accurate - she really does deserve all the attention she receives.
Correcting my own post - three of Paavo Nurmi's Olympic golds were team events (2 in team cross country, 1 in team 3000m). Still the GOAT I think, but Felix, Lewis, and Bolt are closer to him in all-time stature than I'd thought.
Great performance by Felix. It's clear Miller-Uibo is in a class of her own, but a wonderful middle finger to the many posters here who keep insisting she has done nothing to deserve being on the 4x400 relay, let alone celebrated for her career accomplishments.
I get that NBC runs narratives into the ground to drive casual viewers and is trying hard to GOAT her and it can grate; while I think she's well off being GOAT in any event, she is an absolute legend for staying world class in the sprints for as long as she has with as clean a doping record as any elite sprinter. You are free to think whatever you might about her advocacy (just as I am free to venomously disagree with you), but her on track accomplishments merit celebration.

Also don't forget, her and Serena are the only pro women athletes ever to be MOMS!
How cool is that?!?
INteresting you should mention Serena since she almost died after childbirth. But I wouldn't expect most Americans to care about Black Women's and their problem with pregnancy-related deaths.
What a load of TRIPE!!! Where the heck do you Race Peddlers come up with this CR@P?!?!?!!!! Go pound sand!!
Liujavelen - What a broad brush to swipe.. Most Americans care about solid pre-natal care, as well as diminishing infant mortality. Yes, they are racists out there, but most want healthy babies and healthy mothers. None of us want to go back to the WW1 era, where losing a child or a sibling was all too common, irrespective of race. My great grandparents and grandparents led much more difficult lives (although you wouldn't know it). To the extent that black women don't get the care they need today, let's talk about solutions (concrete ones and not abstract ones).
Note that Serena and Allyson had access to great care, so sometimes things just happen. Felix called her physician and was hospitalized almost immediately. Kudos to Felix and her physician for taking things seriously when it mattered. I get it that some are tired of hearing about her being a mom, but Felix really knows how to race and rise to the occasion. Plus, I think her daughter is adorable, no matter how many times she is shown, the issue is small potatoes in the scheme of things.

Amantle Monsho was later suspended for doping. One athlete threw herself across the finish line. Those should have been two gold medals to Felix.
Only Brady and Serena? Michael Phelps won his first Olympics in 2000 (finished fifth), won his first golds in 2004, and finished in 2016 with 28 total Olympic medals. It was the first time in 21 years that the 200 fly Olympic final did not have Michael Phelps.
To Felix's credit, her medals all came in a sport that has much greater global participation than American football, swimming, and tennis.
Since we’re track fans we have to care that Allyson has SEVEN individual medals at world championships, FOUR of them gold.
And like these other posters mentioned, Allyson has THREE individual olympic silver medals, and now a bronze.
That’s not even touching all her relay medals in 4x4 and 4x1 (Where 100 is not her main event)
For comparison, Matthew Centrowitz has 1 olympic medal (gold) and 2 world championship medals (silver and bronze) versus Allyson’s 5 and 7.
An interesting question would be how many individual olympic finals she was in where she DIDN’T medal, or how many times she lined up at the olympics and didn’t make the final. I don’t know the stats on that but pretty sure the number is small.

Is diving for the finish line illegal?

I get that it’s annoying at times but at her age and her story, she put on a goated level performance that no one thought was gonna happen. I didn’t think she’d make the final but experience pays. For now she deserves the hype and praise
I agree. Allyson Felix has had an amazing career but recently I've felt the hype and myth was greater than her actual performances.
She totally delivered tonight and all season.
She is a great champion, humble and gracious and an incredibly long career.
