Stanford is a Canadian - born and raised. As were her parents.
Ahmed is a Somalian - born and raised. (With a Canadian passport)
Enough of a reason?

The only thing Canadian about him is his passport.
A passport that the Canadian government gives to any refugee that spends a grand total of three (3) years in Canada.
Amazing things is that he does not even want to be a Canadian. He is proud to be a Somalian.
Or the fact that he spent his formative years in Canada and the Canadian school system....immigrants are allowed in Canada, as they are in the USA. Not a big deal.

LOL you're so salty.
Having had the chance to meet Moh on multiple occasions, that guy has watched more Hockey Night in Canada than almost any other Canadian I know. Man could chat your ear off about the Leafs better than 95% of customers in a Sudbury Tim Hortons. He is one of the most stereotypically hilarious Canadian people I've ever met, except he somehow talks like he's from Scarborough instead of St Catherines.
(also apropos of nothing, Stafford's mother and grandmother were/are Spanish citizens)
Ask him. Canadian. Great runner. Has been for many years. Go Mo!

Nothing about Mohammed Ahmed is Canadian. Including his name.
What is a Canadian name? What is an American (USA) name? Tegenkamp? Ritzenhein? Solinsky? Salazar? Cuomo? Kennedy? Really curious to hear your thoughts.
Amazing run for Mo.
Canadians are having their best year ever on the track!
So now you're going to kick off Chelimo, Aliphine out of the US team because they were born and raised abroad. What about Meb? or even grant fischer (who was born in Calgary)? Going to ask for Gwen Jorgensen to share her gold medal with Spain and Australia because that's where she was living most of the time when training for Rio.
In all honesty Mo Ahmed (unlike meb, aliphine and Chelimo) at least sounds like he is from the country he represents, he sounds like a kid from Ontario (meb aliphine and chelimo all speak very well, but they have noticeable accents... and by this virtue they also have funny names.)
Seriously unless you want to go full eugenics for the US team, get a life.
this is just a terrible take. take the L and leave it alone

Olympic silver, sub-13 in this weather, and I can't believe there isn't a single thread on that.
Great race from him.
Regarding the weather, in that heat, the smaller you are the better able to thermoregulate - Mo is a tiny - he is like 5'11 and 120 pounds. Yeah, all those guys are light, but Mo stands out. You see him in person, he's just so thin it's crazy.
This is completely false. I went to school and competed with his younger brother, and he is as Canadian as you get. So keep spewing ignorance and hate elsewhere. Awesome people and can't think of a better individual to represent Canada on the world stage.
You might want to check how much Canadian taxpayers' money is used to benefit his athletics now that he is earning plenty as a global medallist in a sexy event. Much less than you might guess.Though I don't suppose that would alter your POV which I think is, in essence, based on things you haven't yet spelled out.
Nobody cares what you think of his Canadianness. The Canadian government thinks he is Canadian and so does he. That is all that matters. It doesn’t matter at what age he became Canadian or that his name is Muslim. He has the same rights and privileges, including the privilege of national pride, as every other Canadian.

Completely agree and I'm thrilled for Mo. He is a super guy and a full on Canadian as far as I am concerned.
On the other hand, it is fair to say that Canadian winners of things like the Olympic medals get outsized praise and recognition from homers. Look at the threads on Degrasse, look even back to when Mike Weir won the Masters (yeah, remember that). Canadians definitely do not act like they have "been there before". But, you know, that's fine too.
Greater than 50% of Torontonians were born in another country. Canada is a multi-culture haven. Historically many of our great athletes were born in, or have strong ties to the Carribean (e.g. Lennox Lewis, Ben Johnson, Bruny Surin, Donovan Bailey - they all still live in Canada btw). Moh is the first one with close east African ties I can think of.
I suspect the fortunes of your favored country would be much brighter if it had a open and welcoming culture like Canada's.
Thankfully, nobody's slinging mud because he's a BTC athlete. Sub-13 and a medal.... that's a good day at the office.
He didn't fall and pull someone down with him thankfully...
Be honest Canucks: if Mo was a white guy, who was born and raised in Canada, who’s parents were born and raised in Canada .. and his name was Chris McPherson (or any last name that begins with ‘Mc’) -
The media and the country would treat him as a national hero.
But … he is (and these are facts):
A Somalian
Who lives and trains in the United States
With a Canadian passport
(Stop jumping all over posts and calling facts as racist. Because nothing I have ever said is racist. They are facts. )
Deep down inside you all know what I am saying is true. So cut the PC bull.
Seems like a nice Canuck but is a member of the Burrito Track Club so no1curr

He won a Silver.
Dude’s absolutely fuming. Katir is gonna pop and won’t even have a medal to be stripped. L’s on top of L’s. Give him a bit to gather himself and we’ll be seeing some more of the typical incoherent bullsht.
