yes, he looked great today.

Deadmon ran that excellent 400m in Europe. If he's fastest split and we replace 3, I'd say he's earned his spot .
Cherry, Deadmon, Mike, Rai. Deadmon split ran 43.85 today. Ross split 44.4 on second leg today with a running start.
What have you done for me lately? I have to go with Rai Benjamin who may split 42, Michael Norman who will split 43 low, Michael Cherry who will split 43 low, and Bryce Deadmon who will split 43.
Love Stuart and Ross but NCAA's took too much out of their legs.
I think the Olympic website said Deadmon split either 44.1 or 44.3 both are great. But I don't think they all split 43s. If you are ahead that much, there is no one to push you. Which is fine. We just need a gold medal.
*44.08 for Deadmon

No he didn't. He split 44.08.
I insult you because you're a pompous ass and seem to be stalking me on this subject for some reason.
He was training for both the 100 and 200 so you're ignorant of that fact right off and it totally exposes that you don't know anything about him. He ran 19.90 and you're trying to say he can't run 44 in an event that he trained for years in? You know nothing about the human body and how long a strong background will serve as a base.
In training for the 200 Kerley is running 300's and probably a few 400's to keep his strength for the rounds. And I don't care what university you ran for because I ran for an American university where it's common knowledge your 400 base doesn't degrade by any % as long as you are still training. Also there isn't coach in this country who would say that a guy with Kerley's 400 background and can run 19.90 could not run the 400. We would also switch and do a couple weeks of faster training to shock the fast twitch system to actually keep from going stale by doing 400 training. We never had any problem switching back, in fact it made 400 training easier.
I guess we should all think Dutch Sprinters have all the knowledge about sprinting. This from a country that developed Schippers from 21.7 all the way up to 23. Well done. I hope Bol moves to train in the US before she starts running 54's.
In the meantime go buy a gallon of paint.
https://images.fineartamerica.com/images/artworkimages/mediumlarge/1/dutch-boy-paints-jon-berghoff.jpgChill man. I'm not even Dutch haha. But I think you'll see the coaches make the right decision. When Deadmon runs 44.08 you don't risk it. Unless you are an underdog. And you don't have the slightest clue what kind of conditioning he has done. Maybe he has done 400 training, maybe not. If he has been doing 100 training since June 25th....no competent coach would be like 'lets expirement with this."
Tomorrow one of us will be right and one will be wrong.
This line-up right here makes the most sense. No need to try and bring in Kerley for this . Only guy I would put on here if not Deadmon is Norwood.
Yep, just another armchair boomer not paying attention to the actual broadcasts chiming in!
USA is -1100 to win. Jamaica next at +800
400 specialists aren’t running 500 repeats in the last 4-6 weeks before a peak. Even Clyde Hart’s volume based program doesn’t have that.

It's not about who's right or wrong with regard who the coaches use. They could use Wil London who is the freshest guy after the other subs. That wouldn't be a wrong choice either. The problem with Deadmon and anyone else who ran in the prelim is it's very iffy to recover from a hard 400 in less than a day. Which is why I feel Kerley or London would be good choices.
You claim Kerley can't run a fast 400 anymore and as far as I'm concerned you're wrong about THAT. I think you're operating under the belief that Kerley is a 100/200 runner moving up and has no history of running the 400. But he has an excellent history and that 400 strength just doesn't leave a fit runner in less than 2 months. As I pointed out with my own training, dropping down and training to shock the fast twitch system actually makes the 400 feel easy by comparison. I've done it and so did the guys at Blinn although they were obviously a lot faster than me.
Bednarek, Kerley, Cherry, Benjamin. 2:54.5
You are right, dropping down can stimulate nervous system (fast twitch) training. But IF, Kerley stopped training for not only the 400, but also stopped training for the 200 ( which I assume he stopped, unless coaches planned this way back), then his 100 training alone for 5 weeks, would cause him to lose his endurance. So, like I said, it comes down to how he has been training. Which only the coaches know. If he is training for the 400 "incase" by running some 350s once a week, he'd probably be okay. But geeze people here literally want grant Holloway, who hasn't run a competitive 400 since 2018 or 2019, to jump in the relay. He hasn't raced anything longer than 110 meters in 3 years. Someone else said put Lyle's on it? Running "up" is not like running "down" a race.

That's all I'm saying. He can keep his 400 fitness by doing the minimum because his years of training for the event have built a massive aerobic background and the shorter bursts are enhanced by that.
Holloway would be true madness as would Bednarek...now those guys would be examples of shorter sprinters moving up without having run a 400 in years.
I apologize for my angry posts. I love the 400, and I think the relay is most exciting event for fans and also for the runners. Nothing like getting the stick at the last event of the meet and all the teams are lining the track screaming.
What's wrong with Norman? He was a 43.6 guy in April in 2019.
Randolph Ross at full strength, 43.75, would be a no brainer for the final team but where is he at right now. Bryce Deadmon looked good. Vernon Norwood really built up a huge margin. I would take Kerley for the team any day of the week. However, he had ankle issues that led him to drop the 400, so you'd have to check on his ankles first. In fact, Lyles would run a great leg, I am convinced. He was a low 45 guy already in high school and just ran 19.7. I'd be curious to see what Kung Fu Kenny could run as well after running 19.68. We should be able to run 2:55 in the final, despite the disappointment in the open 4.
There's nothing like a good 4x400 under the lights. Everyone lines up on the back stretch, then sprints to the home stretch, then back to the backstretch. It's the best!
We'll have to agree to disagree about the his fitness, but it's cool man.
Bednarek has been racing the 400 his whole life and is the 2nd best 200 meter runner in the world. He would split 43.5 without a problem.
