Hocker is winning the Gold. The dude knows how to race. He’s gonna let’s Cheriyout and the boys go out hard while Hocker chills in the back half and then he ‘s going to outkick everybody at the end.

Final will be 3:28 or faster w/ the final we have. Hocker's legs will get run off of him? Hope I'm wrong - he impressed today. Track is faster, shoes are faster.
No longer a 3:35 guy!
COLE HOCKER is FIRST AND FOREMOST AN AMERICAN.
Therefore : He won't even finish top 6
Lmao everyone in the 2nd heat ran faster than Hocker is even capable of. He's lucky he was in the loser heat or he wouldn't even be in the finals.
I say Centrowitz didn't even qualify for the final, and he ran faster than Hocker LMFAOOO.
HOCKER = LOSER.
Gotta take my hat off to Nick Willis though. Running a 3:35 at 38yrs+. Respect!

no way dude was straining ten times compared to Cheriyout he will be a non factor in the final
Not sure about Hocker, I'd say 4th. 1 thing is for sure, McSweyn cant win. I think it's between Jakob, Cheruiyot and Kipsang.
I do think though that if Hocker got a buzz cut he could make getting a medal on himself a lot easier - less wind resistance and weight to carry lol
hocker ran what he had to run to make it through. An impressive run.
Centro looked good and positioned himself well, just didn’t have the lungs for the last 100m.
Kerr ran the way he should’ve run last round, and showed he should have made it through.
However the final still seems like it will be a race between Jakob and cheriyut and maybe kipsang.
Jakob on Norwegian TV:
- Conditions extremely good.
- Final will not be tactical. It has already been settled that it will be run fast.

But he hasn't run fast... Fair enough but
His pb is now 3:33.....
If he was in heat 2 his Olympics would have been over. His new PR would not have moved him forward. I also think Jakob, Jake and a couple of the guys ran conservative and Cole may have been close to all out.
Hocker had a good race and was US hope #1 to begin with, but a 3:28 race is gonna break him, just like 3:32 race broke Centro.

Had Hocker been in the second semi, he'd have still run tactically savvy. He's been so composed and technically consistent this year, level of competition notwithstanding. He closed in 25.8 (52.8).
Also to note: McSweyn and the Inges have apparently become buddies after a stay in St. Moritz this summer. It does not surprise me to see a preplanned tactics in the final, and that the SF was a rehearsal of that tactics.
My idea of what they have in mind: Jakob taking the lead from 200-400m passing 400m at 55 letting McSweyn lead from 400m and allowing a gap of a few meters forcing Cheruiyot to cover the gap unless he is comfortable with letting McSweyn go, and then Jakob take the lead at 800m pushing on forcing Cheruiyot once again to react.
If Hocker gets 8th in the final people are going to act like it is a huge failure. He was a 3:58 miler before this year. He's already exceeded all expectations.
agreed. Wightman will medal.
Say what you want about the 3:33.8 but Hocker was a second faster than the rest of his heat over the final 300, and he did not look flat out.
