The fact we don’t have cinder tracks anymore is laughable. Mondo tracks are unfair. The fact he wipes out Jesse Owens records is laughable.

Other than one outlier performance (10.63 SAFP), the womens 100m top list looks like any other year with a couple 10.7x's and 17 sub 11s.
You guys just don't get it. The shoe companies are telling the athletes to sandbag races with these shoes. That way, after a few years of "no improvements", athletes will suddenly start running faster and it will just be because of new training regimes rather than the shoes that had been on the market for years and given no discernable advantage.
why would the companies not want the credit.
athletes aren't sandbagging races they are preforming up to the normal standard.
Athletes didn't sand bag races when the vapor flies or dragonflies came out
Do super spikes help in the 100 and 200? Haven’t seen any crazy times other than the Jamaican women lol.
This is a stupid argument. I’m sure Bolt had the best tech for his time period and so did everyone else.
Sprinting already had its super shoe moment, they’ve been putting full length plates in sprint spikes for over 20 years, and surprise, surprise it can be worth up to a 4% improvement in speed, especially if the plate can be tuned to the athlete:

Any doubt that Puma didn’t tune Bolt’s spikes just for him before his world records?

There's no data that proves that the new sprint spikes are causing faster times, but ok ...
No?
No there isn't. Where is it (the data, facts - anything)
I think it's ironic that Usain Bolt, the guy at least 0.1 seconds faster than the next group of what 10 athletes in history that were all either caught or implicated in steroid use, is talking about things that are "unfair". Yeah whatever dude.

I literally just posted an article referencing the data, see:
Darren Stefanyshyn & Ciro Fusco (2004) Increased Shoe Bending Stiffness Increases Sprint Performance, Athletics, Sports Biomechanics, 3:1, 55-66, DOI: 10.1080/14763140408522830
Bolt is right (regarding the shoe tech in general, propulsive spring-like shoes is not fair to the sport) but have we seen such spikes in the sprints yet? The viperfly was cancelled after all.

You’re making stuff up. There’s a difference between a violation and steroid/PED use.
Yohan Blake and Asafa Powell committed violations (Powell was ultimately cleared, Blake’s violation was for a minor stimulant that isn’t proven to enhance performance). Christian Coleman missed drug tests (sketchy, but not proof). Trayvon Bromell’s record is as clean as Bolt’s. Nesta Carter was “busted” for the same substance as Blake.
Tyson Gay, Justin Gatlin, Steve Mullings and Mo Greene are the only ones in the top 10 either confirmed or heavily implicated in steroid/PED usage.
Bolt’s ego’s starting to sweat knowing full well his records will probably be gone by the time he hits middle age - if not sooner. Should have pushed yourself harder when you had the chance, Usain.
Yup, he was more of the old-school pill and needle enthusiast.
Really good read if you've never seen it before, note the lists of crossed off names and the coach/manager/team-mate ties, all too implausible:
you gotta protect your legacy if you an athlete like Bolt. Whatever or whomever starts to threaten your times and wins, you lay a trail of reasons why it isn't as impressive....
Just think of all the people on this site that think Jim Ryun could run close to a 3:26 1500m or a 3:43 mile with today's tracks/technology/apparel/training etc......

Yeah, it is interesting there are different tracks and pools at different climates and latitudes.
I wouldn't say mondo tracks are unfair, just faster.
What if there was just one venue where you could run/swim a world record and the surfaces never changed?
Everything would be pretty comparable and things like new shoe technology would be even bigger outliers or indicators of improvement. Probably wouldn't work or would be uninteresting because we couldn't watch athletes pushing the limits, but it'd be a nice way to compare performances over time
He's right
why are they made? wrote:
So if super shoes don't make you faster, according to many posters here, then why are they being made? What is the selling point? Why are the manufacturers spending money and R&D on this new technology?
Exactly!!! Why is every GD runner on the face of the earth sporting the new shoes? Because they know they are at a disadvantage if they’re not wearing them.
Prove all the naysayers wrong. Stop wearing them!!!

You’re laughable. Do your research on cinder vs. synthetic tracks.
