I also did hard "tempo" runs in the summer and lots of intervals during the season.
Had I done less I would have raced slower. That's clear as day as the guys on the team who did less yearly volume I beat.
So are we back to clinging to this less is more approach? I thought we were over that? Train hard. Race hard. Win hard.
If you keep holding back for some far off ill-conceived notion if "waiting for college" there won't be a college to run for.
To each their own. All athletes are different.
I think the talented runner who bangs out state championships on 30mi a week is the exception not the rule when it comes to HS development. An average talent ain't gonna do squat on 30mi a week.
