Centro is such a tactical genius

I'm devastated for Craig, but he let that race get away from him. h\He was in such a tough spot to qualify from 400 to go.
Contrast to Centro's positioning. Centro was always in control of that race and it would have been like Mu's race if not for Hocker's massive d*ck.
FIFY
That was tactically and horrific race for him and I'm sure he'll agree.
Epitome of Always a Bride's Maid, Never a Bride. Same club as Ben True and Will Lear. Would rather be towards the back than perpetually 4th.

You acted like he hasn’t gotten on the team. Just give it a week and we will see the one who is eating their words.
Craig Engles is a life support system for a bad haircut.
He acts like a high school kid who just grew his first mustache, acting like it’s amazing and unique.
He should have shaved his head and maned the f up.
Why’s he trying to look like Joe Dirt anyway?
No clue why Engels gets so much hate on these boards. His 3:33 to win PTF is still the fastest time by an American this year and it looked so easy. His tactics have been questionable in the past but he was positioned well tonight until about 600 to go. Just got boxed in and didn’t get out until it was too late. We’re sending a great team to Tokyo but it’s a shame Engels isn’t part of it.
And you can’t help but feel bad for the guy. He was 4th and 5th at the Trials in 2016, then 4th again tonight. Brutal.
Redneck Hero goes home DEVESTATED!!!
i also thought he went out very hard in the first 100. centro played it cool and was just at the back waiting his time. maestro
i wanted to see engels qualify but its a tough race

He will be 30 next trials so there's a shot he makes the 2024 Olympic team but it will be very, very tough even without Centro (I'm guessing Centro will be running the 5k by then but who knows). I was hoping he would make it this year as without Cheriyout it could be a tactical race that would suit him well, and give him a shot at a medal.
Why do people forget about the World Championships? Some athletes have said the WC's are a bigger deal for T&F than the Olympics.
Are these “some people”, people who haven’t made the Olympics? Is Brazier one of these people?

From the start of Worlds (1983) athletes have said the WC are bigger for athletes and Olympics are bigger for the average fan.
I like that they now have another Global meet to look forward to.
I remember when there was no World Championship.

You can't blame his tactics because he was shoulder to shoulder with Nuguse with 100m to go and he got DESTROYED. Nuguse is far better than Engels, and Hocker & Centro clearly are better too.

Letsrun posters don't like anyone that stands out or speaks out too much. This is a starched collar, crew cut kinda crowd. I'm sure even saying that will ruffle some feathers and I'll get some insults. I mean go ahead, I don't care.
The personal judgments of Engels and most of these athletes are not warranted. We barely know these people beyond some race theatrics, post race interviews, and some social media posts. How much do you really know about these runners, their character, and how they live their lives unless some documentary crew follows them around for a year?
Engels does deserve some criticism for his racing tactics and preparation, though. He is a confident guy but hasn't seemed to learn how to position himself better in the race. The only guy in that race objectively faster and more experienced than him was Centro. Engels should know where he needs to be and what he needs to do. He also has hinted that he doesn't take training as seriously as he does. Seems a bit immature for a guy that gets paid to run.

Well they were wrong.
I think Engels seem a little cocky. I think he thought he had his spot wrapped up based on his time/experience. But then he makes a boneheaded move and allowed himself to get boxed in the last lap.
Fighting out of that didn't leave much at the end.

The olympics has a bigger name to it, but the world championships is just as competitive, if not more, since the defending champ gets an auto and it's typically a situation where a country gets to send 4 athletes. If you're outside the sport and only watch track during the olympics, that speaks for itself, but if you're inside the sport, you know there's not much of a difference. I personally like the WC because it's more exclusive.
Anyways, if Engels was tactically going for 3rd he was in a good spot. Neck and neck with Nuguse 100m to go, but just got out sprinted. Centro has the best tactics, Hocker has the best acceleration over the last 100m, and Nuguse outsprinted him. It's that simple.
cute 'stache tho

Who the F has ever said that.
