Rupp is most definitely in the peak of marathoning training and for him to hang until the last lap was awesome. How.many raves has he run shorter than a half marathon in the last five years? Very impressive.

LOL seems Rupp has forgotten how to race on a track
Anyone remember this from his marathon debut?
He could have been robbed worse. At least they let him run.

If you actually take the time to watch that race, you'll see Meb doing the exact same thing multiple times. He couldn't handle the hot pace and whined like a baby because he got dropped.

Smart race for the guys who had the qualifier and a kick to not drag up guys like Rupp into a chance to be a spoiler... you saw Rupp move up once then realize there was no way and this was only going to be a training run.
A training run????? Oh please stop with that garbage, it's total BS!
What shoes did Rupp race in? Looked like the Nike Splatt?
Nike Air Zoom Victory, surprising bc those are used, for the most part, only by 800 and 1500 runners
I agree that this wasn't a training run, but I am curious what his actual training was like the previous 7-10 days. I expect he still had a hard long effort within that time frame, and I would expect he still put in a lot of miles...though, perhaps they were on the underwater/alterG treadmill.
Either way, that looked like a very respectable final 800 for someone doing marathon training, and I like his chances in Tokyo.
I still want to see some clips, but I'll add that there is no way he was going to podium. Top three earned their spots.
Why are people saying he was robbed, if anything it was the opposite. Rupp's style of running has always been running up on people's heels and getting himself spiked. His trips last night and for the majority of his career were entirely his fault. He wasn't even contending for a spot last night; he was just a wrench in the race that other guys had to navigate around.
when you are timid, things don't work.
if you want to learn how to close in 60 seconds
do marathon training.
you have to focus on 53 seconds in training to close in 53.
duh

I agree. I thought Meb came across as a crybaby after getting his a$$ kicked.

Rupp was absolutely robbed of the podium. He was getting pushed around like a toy out there. Would have loved to see him try to kick with the other bois
Hopefully his asthma didn’t affect the performance. Did he trip on his inhaler?

Well that must be what differs smiths coaching style vs Salazar, because we Salazar it seemed the focus was to be highly versatile and they could have mini “peaks” just for this meet then go right back to Marathon focus. With smith they must be all in with marathon training and just winged it here. I don’t think he would have run the 10k at Tokyo anyway had he had the standard and placed top 3. Unless the marathon went terrible.

Do dopers really get robbed of anything. It is Rupp's problem if he can't handle sitting in a race pack.
Well, with the marathon 10 days after the 10K it would be pretty difficult for him to run the 10K if the marathon went terrible.

Mo - 27:25......hopefully.
No. They were all bunched up because they were under the qualifying standard. You can either have the balls to take charge and find some space or you can get prepared for a more physical race. He has old man strength, but there’s not shot his old marathoner legs were going to outkick a 24 year old in the end. I just don’t think he ran a smart race. Him and True were getting tangled up, but that’s not the reason True came in fourth, he just got dusted by the kids.
Wow, what happened to Rupp? He used to be such a good runner. Couldn't even get top 3?
Rupp got his doors blown off by the young guns. That's what happened. There is no way he could close in 53.
Rupp just lucky AIU wasn't around back when he was on that Salazar juice.
