Is she locked in for a 4x4 spot regardless of how the 800 trials go?

Yes. Kessler also.
Kessler should not go pro out of high school. After Drew Hunter any huge standout high school athlete should do at least a year of college.
$500k/yr seems about right--assuming she doesn't sign with Lululemon-- but performance bonuses, such as double golds or medaling in the 1500 (or even 400H) could put her closer to a million in a year with international championships. Her social media presence--how much time & energy she's willing to put into it; what sort of "necessary metrics" are included in her contract--will also factor in, dropping or increasing her debut professional year earnings a few $100k either way.

Lol. Perhaps Adidas made the wrong choice, but Drew Hunter did not.
You guys are low balling. 25k-70k/year? Athing is world class in TWO events. When is the last time we had a medal threat at 800m who could also split on the 4 x 4? Donavan Brazier is the 800m world champion and he doesn't even have enough speed to make our 4 x 4 team. She could go back to the 400m over the next olympic cycle and still be competitive. This is her biggest selling point. She has options. It's almost the same with 8/15, 1500/5k, but you never know if the schedule will allow you to double. But still, who is a legit medal threat in 2 distance events even if the schedule allowed? Shelby Houlihan at 1500/5k, that's it, and that double isn't possible this year.
I'm calling at least 300k. Probably closer to 350k-400k.

You gotta be trolling if you are saying athing has the same marketability as Sydney McLaughlin
Sydney McLaughlin is making around $1.5 million per year. I think Athing Mu will make $500k per year. 1/3 the money, 1/3 the marketability. Makes sense.
Which is why Mu shouldn't sign until after the Olympics. Sure, McLaughlin may have greater marketability in the US, but Mu's potential global appeal seems significantly higher. After a strong performances in Tokyo and greater exposure allowing her natural gifts (personality, intelligence) to shine, contract offers guaranteeing $1mil/yr would be no surprise.
Sign now! What happens if the games get cancelled? Better take the money and run (no pun intended)
I would think the right time to go pro is right now. Getting a great deal, plus hopeful bonuses for qualifying for the Olympic. She is the future of U.S. women's track and field period, no question. However, I can imagine the distraction that it would be to have to do all this right now, the trails start next week, and you would think she would want to put all her energy towards that. Hopefully she was in talks with agents prior to NCAA's and already has a plan. I do think the best time to go pro is now. If she wants to continue college she can get that written into her contract, she has no competition in the NCAA and can be making bank with her talent.
But what if she WINS the trials? Surely that earns her more negotiating power. Then you're talking big money. Everyone will be talking about her.

I wish track contracts were made public by some guy gambling 3-4 million on Mu is making a huge bet. You can probably get all the beasts for that much🤣. You are making a huge bet on cross over appeal that few runners get.

Isn’t he pulling in 1m over 10 years or something? That really isn’t that substantial…

Compared to the $10-20k plus free kits and shoes that he would “pull in” if he were signing right now? $1M is pretty substantial.

If Hunter had gone to college and developed into what he thought he was gonna be, he'd get 1 million just to sign alone. And it would have been with Nike so you know he would get a nice large bonus just to sign
you can take a big check now.
if not.
you get the 153 and huge press in the trials or OG
then if it works out, we are talking mega dollars.
a female bolt.

Fair enough. Who knows how much the Tinman nonsense is worth as well and I doubt that would have been as easy to pull off without enough financial support to feed himself and what not.

Why not just stay in school… her scholarship and gear package is worth much more than 50k per year and she can get an education still go to the Olympics and then go pro after college and after that get a real job/coaching job.
shell make way more than 50k a year..... she could do 70k + in prize money alone if she hits the diamond league circuit, if she medals at the olympics shell make probably clear 200k before the fall. also nike would gladly cover her college cost and give her more gear than tx a&m. this argument is silly
Whenever she gets the biggest offer. It may make sense to wait until after the Trials, especially if she wins them.

Mu is a perfect set up to be a global superstar for the next decade, maybe with more upside than any other current or prospective USA T&F star, man or woman. Think Simone Biles of T&F. I think she is going to be offered a contract in the McLaughlin range. She will be every bit as marketable, maybe more so. Now is the time for the offers to come and now is the time for her to sign.
