That's exactly what is wrong with our sport. If we focused on only those who medal in a world or olympic final, we wouldn't have much to discuss. The prospect that Elle could win a medal is exactly what is so exciting about this sport. A local chick who wins an NCAA title in a mid-major uniform, goes on to set 2 american records in the middle of losing a shot at one of those medals because of covid? If you are the type that will wait for her to medal and then talk about how great she is then you are simply not a fan of the sport and if anything are bad for it.
By your standards we should only talk about Jager, Centro, Rupp, Chelimo and Simpson. Other than Jager, we hardly see these athletes compete. Imagine a sports fan who is only interested in talking about those who have a medal but never want to see them compete? I guess by your standards the season in which these athletes compete is a waste of time and shouldn't be discussed. At the end of the day - you are horrible for the sport. You devalue the work these athletes put into their careers and you really shouldn't even be allowed to comment on an athlete who medals if you are that uninterested in the work that's done before and after that medal.
