The 10k fields look pretty stacked too!
I'll add the PRs for these guys that I can find. It seems kinda crazy that this many people are going for sub 27:30, given that there's a sub 28 field too
10:05 PM (sub 27:30)
Abdisamed Abdi - I think he broke 29, his page won't load on World Athletics
Alex Masai - 14:00/29:39
Alex Monroe - 13:36/28:17/61:50
Ben True - 7:35/13:02/27:41 his longer distance PRs are pretty old but he's been running fast the past couple years
Biya Simbassa - 13:25/27:45
Brogan Austin - 29:02/61:52
Clayton Young - 13:31/28:18 TFRRS
Connor Winter - 13:35/28:21
Edward Cheserek - 3:49i/13:04/27:42
Eric Jenkins - 13:07/27:48
Frank Lara - 28:10/61:50
Futsum Zienasellassie - 13:34/27:52/61:54
Geoffrey Kipchumba - 14:19/28:19
Hassan Mead - 13:02/27:32
Hilary Bor - 13:26
Jacob Thompson - 13:41/28:40 TFRRS
Jake Riley - 13:32/27:59/2:10 Good to see him going for a fast 10k time keeping sharp for the Olypics :)
Joe Klecker - 7:47i/13:28
Lawi Lalang - 13:00/28:03 5k pr is from 2013, 10k from last year. Hope they run well in this
Leonard Korir - 13:15/27:20/59:57/2:07 This guy has great range
Patrick Tiernan - 13:12/27:29/61
Reed Fischer - 28:23/61:37 Hoping he gets a big 10k pr since he's dropping so much in distance
Robert Brandt - 13:26/28:22
Sam Chelanga - 13:09/27:08/60:27 Been 10 years since his PR, hope he runs under 27:30
Reid Buchanan - 13:27/27:58
Tyler Day - 13:16i/28:04 I think he has a good shot at breaking 27:30 given his college record last year
Girma Mecheso - 13:34/27:49 5k pr from 2012 and 10k from this year, he's been going strong for a while
Connor McMillan - 13:38/28:09/2:12 This guy sounds really familiar
Augustus Maiyo - 13:53/28:49 This guy's 5k pr is 15 years old shoutout to him, and came 5th in the marathon trials
Zach Panning - 13:37/28:16
Morgan McDonald - 13:15/29:26 He's really moving up in distance dang
I think the favorites to break 27:30 are: Ben True, Cheserek, Jenkins, Mead, Riley maybe, Lalang, Korir, Tiernan, Fischer maybe, Chelanga maybe, Day, and McDonald based off of PRs and what I remember off the top of my head. As long as the pacing is good, I think at least 3-5 people are gonna break 27:30.

It's official. I must be getting old and cynical.
You type this exciting post and yet as I'm looking at these heats I'm thinking, "I definitely have never even heard of half of the guys in sub-13:30 heat. What about the sub-13:15 heat? We've got a big thread hyping a guy for running in the B heat of a race?"
Before I go too negative, I think it's an amazing thing that his race is scheduled and taking place. Kudos to the organizers and to the Internet for making this possible 25 years ago, this thing wouldn't exist.
But it's the year 2020, 13:30 is no longer a great time. I spent about 20 minutes trying to find the PRs of the guys listed in the sub-13:30 and sub 13:15 races. In the sub 13:30 race, I see one guy with a PB under 13:40. No one has broken 13:30. So if I"m Vegas, I put the over under of # of sub-13:30s in that race at 1.5.
For the sub-13:15 race, similarly, no one in hte field has broken 13:30 and only 1 has broken 13:20. Vegas would put the over under of # of sub 13:15s at 1.5 as well.

I would take the easy money off 'vegas'. Overs for both. If conditions suit, 2 or 3 will drive each other under those times.
Alex Masai ran 1328 last indoor closing super fast. He’s the most underrated guy in the NCAA rn. Don’t sleep on him

Lowkey that 13:28 indoor was the 13th best college indoor 5k

He raced well 2 weeks ago.
HILARIOUS!
This man showed up in a Basketball Jersey to the Dempsey.... he ran 13:48 last indoors! I want to see the SPACE JAM Jersey in LA!
DARN IT CONNER. I am a huge Conner mantz fan, I think that a fit Conner is TOUGH to beat, but you can’t get fit IF YOU ARE INJURED. Coach Eyestone, pull this guy back a little. He’s injury prone, maybe he doesn’t need 110 miles in 6 days. I don’t know exactly what his training looks like, but darn Conner I bet you would be better off running 90 miles a week with all your doubles in the underwater treadmill. Coach eyestone, get this guy a personal trainer to focus on his weaknesses, and get him daily physiotherapy sessions with your team trainer. This guy is national champion caliber, don’t let him get hurt.
Conner: Eat more, sleep more, run less, idk what it’s gonna take, but I want to see you line up healthy to compete for NCAA XC and track titles. It’s better to be 90% fit than injured.
Who is Nico Young?
The 10k field looks almost more exciting than the 5k imo. The 5k is more young guys and NCAA talent, while the 10k is seasoned pros, where the youngest are guys who graduated last year (Hassan Mead may be a bit too seasoned, but props to him for sending it).
I'm thinking Tyler Day may be a sleeper pick just because of his NCAA times/xc accolades, but guys like Chez and Futsum among others will be tough to take down. Also will be interesting to see if Jenkins has managed to recapture his old form.
Pat Tiernan is gunna mess everybody up in the 10k.
LOL @ 30 guys entered in the "Sub 27:30" heat. There might be 3 guts at most that go under 27:30 and the majority of the heat will be over 28:00.
Why do they bother posting these heat times?
There will be exactly 0 sub 13:15 and 0 sub 27:30 performances.
Would love to see it, but that’s the harsh truth.
Going to be a lot of blow ups though. This could get ugly.
Cant wait to see it.
