Interesting discussion going on here.
1) You say it does not seem to be a personal attack. To me it comes across as very personal. Nothing from the campaign comes across that Michael is doing a good job or there are a few areas he needs to improve on. Saying Michael is not able "to convey sensitivity and moral conviction to his staff, and he has repeatedly failed to set a precedent for accountability or transparency within the organization" is very, very, very different than what was put out on social media.
My impression was that whoever started the campaign wants us to believe Michael leads a racist organization. Now some want to argue the words "racist" and "hate" have been watered down to not have a lot of meaning, but it's one of the most damning accusations you can throw at someone in today's era. No right minded person wants to be a racist.
Once again Michael leading a racist organization is very different from failing "to convey sensitivity and moral conviction to his staff, and he has repeatedly failed to set a precedent for accountability or transparency within the organization".
There is a specific allegation that Michael cares more about PR than the safety of his employees or kids. That is personal. There are some very serious allegations out there that deserve investigation. There were more general concerns about how the NYRR is being run as well and what direction it is going. That is a separate issue I feel.
Generally my inclination is the NY media will cover this better than we will but if you are a current or former employee and want to talk and have your anonymity protected feel free to email me
