Imagine Katelyn's time if she ran a similar type of work out being able to draft the entire time off of two faster guy runners. That said, hopefully BB can better her 9:58 in a real race.
And run inside the lines on the curves.......

You mean 2 years ago? May as well ponder about fast Cain could have run back in the day also?
This shouldn't be shocking. She was a monster during XC, and I had high hopes for her this track season, given her previous success.
XC this year was what really showed she was on another level compared to last year. She absolutely destroyed all the top girls in Texas, including the top ones, by like, 50 or so seconds in every race, all uncontested.
The only hiccup came when she was injured and had to miss out on a lot of meets like state. Still surprised she did okay at NXN even after coming back from that, but highly disappointing.
Not sure what the point of the video was or if there was any. It just seemed curious. She is sheparded the entire race by the guy ahead of her who slows down at various points to ensure that she can draft off him. The other guy comes off the track then reenters to kind of push her from behind during the final two laps. And we have no idea if the distance is even accurate. Maybe I am cynical, but it came across to me as an attempt at viral self-promotion, Hopefully that is not unfair.
It is ultimately simple. Do it in a real race under real race conditions. The end.
It was certainly a pretty ideal race or setup for her with the perfect pace staying a step in front of her (until she slowed on the 7th lap). I think when Tuohy did 9:09/4:14.5 back to back and then a week or 2 later 4:33.9 she had the fitness to run 9:35. As I said earlier, it seems like she expected to in May of 2018. But she did not do it, so you have to hand it to Brown for running below 9:40. I see no reason to question the length of the track or the race. I do hope she stays healthy.

Your conclusion in your last sentence is applicable to any TT.
What is wrong with some of you? You are not a fan if you did not watch. You obviously have not been watching all of the virtual meets that are taking place. Drew Hunter's Dad paced on a bike in a time trial for charity. Many kids have used multiple pacers who exit and re-enter.
Telling this girl to run a race? Where do you live? Most of us have no races taking place. This girl is a junior and she just punched her ticket to any school in the country by running and recording this effort and her workout last week. Take advantage of the time you have on this earth. We could all be dead tomorrow. Encourage kids to do their best instead of trying to find something wrong with the best run in history.
I'm cynical by nature I guess. What's the point of posting such a work out on instagram? It just seemed sort of set up. My BS detector went off. But OK. If she runs great times hereafter, I will repent. LOL.
Wow, what's your deal? I think you aren't really serious.
She had people around her, like in a real race. There was good pacing, like in a real race. And it was a TT- because there are no real races now. And it gets a lot of attention- because she's really good.
I don't care how it compares to KT or anybody else in different conditions. It's a really good time. Congrats!
I saw her run a mile race in 9th grade, still playing soccer, never broke 5 before the race. I had no idea who she was. She ran the first 200 in like 32 or something and I thought, that girl is history. She didn't win, and she faded, but she was really tough and I think it was her first sub-5. Amazing.
I am as cynical as anybody, and I (to myself) wondered about the length of the miles. But this is on a track, seems like the distance should be pretty darn right. If she stays healthy and fit, she should go to FL next fall to try to beat 16:39.
You are only as good as your results. Didn't she once supposedly run a 16:12? The discussion of that was entertaining. I remember. Fun times.

She did, but not at Balboa Park, where the record has stood for 35 years I believe.
That whole discussion turned out even more cynical than I'm being. The Balboa record is as good as any to shoot for.

Work out?? Clearly there are some differences between a typical race and this, but she just ran a top 3 all-time high school performance at this distance and some people can't let go of focusing on some minor points on the margins of the performance? We get this wasn't a solo race in a normal race. However, what it really is, is an amazing run. Why that's not the first reaction of half the posts is confusing to me.
Is she a junior now? Once the junior academic year ends you're a senior.
Actually she did not run anything. Do it in an actually timed and measured race under real conditions.

Expect some idiots to claim that this will burn her out forever. She would have smoked every other girl this year.
A race is not a time trial. Different dynamics at play. Some people are good time trialers, some better racers. You don't have people around you trying to make sure you have the least resistance to the finish line in a race.
It's foolish to say she would have smoked every other girl
No. You remain a junior for sports until senior year of school starts. If she breaks a record at nationals in July, it will show as a junior HS record. Just like after you graduate, you can still run post season high school meets in the summer even though your logic would classify them as college students.

Not true.
She opened up the outdoor season with a 9:58 before it shut down.
Good time. Comparable to other good 3200m meter times lately. Starliper had a 9:54 for example. So 9:50s would be her competitive race time.
