i'm fine for either. it's a great race for teams who can't run the DMR or 4xMile. Coward's race all around.
You might want to check the Jesse Owens 800 results before you declare Penn State out of it.
Virginia went 1-2 in the 800 in the conference and that did not include Andrews. Pretty strong.
Plus, Vig has owned Penn since his Texas days. It's UVA again.

Not too long ago Vig won DMR, 4xmile, and 4x800 at Penn. How long until he does it again at UVA? I say he'll do it Robby Andrews' senior year.
Probably not, but it's a nice thought!
Seasons bests for relevant teams...
Virginia: Kostelac 1.49, Roller 1.49, Hobart 1.52, Andrews 1.49/3.40 (give him a 1.46 maybe)
PSU: Borchers 1.50, Williams 1.50, Foster 1.47, Loxsom 1.46
TAMU: Preble 1.48, Ramirez 1.49, Roberts 1.48, Mutschler 1.50
Minnesota: Abda 1.48, Pachuta 1.48, Burkstrand 1.49, Hutton 1.49, Hanson 1.49
Virginia ~7.16, PSU ~7.13, TAMU ~7.15, MN ~7.14
For Virginia it will depend on the two frosh keeping them in it, Roller running big, and then Andrews doing what he does best.
PSU, have been 4th and 3rd the last two years so they know how the race runs. Foster is consistent and Loxsom went big this weekend. Their race will depend fully on which Sam Borchers turns up.
TAMU have more speed than any other team which could play a big advantage. From what I've seen they are fearless and not afraid to lead. Could mean they get out of the traffic that other teams deal with and run away with it.
Minnesota have the most even splits but not sure if they have the big leg to win it. Penn is usually won on the anchor leg. Abda is good but hasn't put a time on the board to show he can run the 1.46 that is usually required to get #1.

Borchers isn't good enough to make the squad. Lionel Williams is PSUs weakest link.
He's going to have to make the squad. After him you are looking at Connor Revord, 1.53, Bernard Bennet-Green, 1.55. Dawson is a redshirt. With him they would be favorites, without though they become the wildcard in my opinion.
Is there a confirmation that Minnesota will be at Penn? They have a 4x800 entered at Drake.

Minnesota will be at Drake. Where in the source that says minnesota will run Penn relays?
based on 2011 Indoor/Outdoor times (no splits)
7:14.35 Texas A&M (Preble, Roberts, Ramirez, Mutschler)
7:14.41 Penn State (Loxsom, Foster, Borchers, Williams)
7:15.21 Arkansas (Dey, Phillips, Bilbrew, Momoh)
7:18.93 BYU (Hedin, Batty, Weirich, Heiner)
7:19.63 UConn (Rutt, Bennatan, Holst, Bennatan)
7:19.71 Virginia (Kostelac, Roller, Andrews, Johnson)
7:21.07 Princeton (Dinkins, Callahan, Sawadogo, Williams)
7:21.99 Virginia Tech (Degfae, McLaughlin, Walizer, Witt)
7:22.33 Florida (Obinwa, Mitchell, Mizereck, Wehunt)
7:23.73 Georgetown (Ulm, Ledder, O'Conner, Hencke)
A big factor for this race is who is doubling with the DMR/4xMile
TEXAS A&M for the win!!!!!
Liam Boylan-Pett running all four legs as an independent and crushing the field in the last 100m.
predictions for HS4x8??? Jamaicans or will an american team win?
Penn State might be better offer without Dawson. With him they would be running from the front ala last year, that caused Williams to go out way to fast and he died. I strongly believe they will be better off running between 2nd to 4th for Loxsom or Foster to anchor and run guys down. It really hinges on Williams running a solid leg, he doesn't have to do something amazing just solid. Like 1:49-1:50 which he is easily capable off.

Running from the front caused Williams to run like an idiot last year? Are you mad? Williams always goes out too hard.
If I were the coach I'd put Williams on lead off and tell him his job is to run from behind no matter what, way behind if he has to, and not even think of moving until 200m to go. Everyone else if fine (unless you're forced to run Borchers, if that's the case you've got a nightmare on your hands) even Foster, who has a tendency to go out too hard, but seems to have addressed that. Foster should NEVER anchor the 4x800. He's fine anchoring a mile, but he ties up way too much in an 800 to make a difference when it matters. That extra gear isn't there. That job should be left to Loxsom.
One thing that is lacking from that ENTIRE Penn State squad is emotion. They run like robots. I want to see fire in their eyes that is never there (including Loxsom). When it gets down to the last 100m you NEVER see a Penn State runner go to the arms and claw for every inch. You NEVER see a Penn State runner refuse to lose. You NEVER see a Penn State runner dig in and reach for that extra gear, even if it isn't there. That's their big weakness -- they run like robots.
If they had just a tenth of the competitive spirit that Charlie Maguire had they'd win at Penn. Half of Charlie's spirit -- they'd be unbeatable.
Penn State 4x8 the challenge has been issued. Become like Maguire on the track but for the love of God not off of it.
Malmo you gonna be at Penn this year?
COA 4x8 is always the most exciting event of the weekend.
Malmo, wonderful advice you're spouting there. Tell me Malmo, how was it that you formed this opinion? From all those races you watched trackside? Or is this one of those golden nuggets of wisdom Malmo forms in his ivy tower, harking back to the good old days when PSU were the "baddest SOBs in the valley". Have you even watched them race?
Maybe you didn't watch the two times Foster was 3rd at NCAA, or the time Loxsom was 2nd at WJ's? Watch those races and tell me if they aren't digging.
