He seems to have the ideal body for it.
He seems to have the ideal body for it.
Because he can run 9.69.
When you are the fastest man in the world, you don't fool around with LJ.
LJ is very, very hard on the legs of sprinters, especially when they first start doing it.
He probably can't take off otherwise he would have done it and broken the WR already.
I've never even seen him do that tuck jump that a lot of sprinters often do before a race, and most of them can't take off like the long jumpers. He doesn't jump much when he celebrates either, maybe it's just not in his genes or maybe he's just too heavy.
I think he's just too heavy and so he will fall faster.
Even if he were to try it, it's not certain he would be any better than other top long jumpers. Just because you can sprint doesn't mean you can jump. I've seen fast HS sprinters try long jump only to jump like 19 ft.
Why would a guy who is the best in the world at what he does want to change things up?
He'd only end up jumping about 8.5 on his best day. He's too ungainly to control his momentum.
Besides he's more doped than Marion.

Quick physcics lesson.
A bodies of mass fall at the same rate regardless of size or weight.
Owems and Lewis were the best sprinters in the world and also dominated in the long jump.
This may be true but only to a certain extent. While a hammer and feather fall at the same rate of -9.8m/s2, everyone knows that they still hit the ground at different times when dropped from the same height on Earth. In the long jump scenario, mass would not matter due to both horizontal and vertical motion. Next time you should review your physics book and learn how to spell it before trying to give out facts to seem smart.
Because Bolt is lazy.
Very very lazy.
Case closed. End of thread.

This is the correct answer.
really? why do you think?
Because nobody cares about the long jump.
Are you comparing Carl Lewis and Usain Bolt as a feather and hammer?
Anyway, he's the best at what he does and is famous for it-no reason to LJ. If life was a video game, he could attack it for 27-30 feet.

Because no one who is 6'5" has reflexes faster than a kung fu master on steroids.
Dude is doped out of his mind. His nerves are going to be shot by the time he's 35. I doubt he'll live past 45 the effect on his body is so severe. Oh well right...better to win 5-6 Gold medals while you're young and die when you're 45 than to win only 1 and die when you're 80.

Win only five or six, and die at 45? How has Carl Lewis made it to age 48?

wow. you ate that right up, didn't you.
he got you.
I remember Lewis, Marion Jones, and other fast sprinters comment about how their top end speed is actually a detriment to LJ performance. Something to do with control getting to the board.
Again, the "because he can run 9.69" answer is probably the best. I think the 100m/LJ combo isn't as common as we like to think.

Bolt is better suited for the standing broad jump. I think he could hit 15' on a good day. Track & field has declined markedly as a spectator sport since the broad jump was moth-balled. Bring back the standing broad jump!
