$8,750 Raised for Wesly Ngetich's Family (Duluth, Minn.) Grandmas Marathon-Duluth, Inc. announced today that is raised $2,750 for the family of Wesly Ngetich through a week-long online auction which concluded April 7. The auction featured three packages, all including 2008 Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon entries, which were available for bidding at GrandmasMarathon.com. This is the second fundraising effort Grandmas Marathon has conducted to assist Ngetichs family. Last month, the non-profit organization raised $6,000 when it opened an additional 100 spots in the 2008 Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon to those runners not selected through the lottery. Another online auction fundraiser is being planned for later this year. Ngetich died Jan. 21 after being shot with an arrow while reportedly attempting to mediate conflict between two disputing tribes near his home Trans Mara, Kenya. The 2005 and 2007 mens champion of Grandmas Marathon, Ngetich was expected to return to Duluth in June to defend his title.
