Anthony Famiglietti, Carrie Tollefson Headline Inagural Kip Keino Mile Famiglietti is hot off the heels of his USA 8k championship last weekend in Central Park in his hometown of NY, NY where he pocketed $10,000. One of the more colorful runners on the circuit, "Fam" has a tremendous range in abilities both on and off the track. On the tracklast year, he ran 27:34.74 for 10k and 3:55.71 for the mile. Prior to last year, his focus was on the steeplechase, where he represented the US in the Olympics in 2004. Off the track, Fam has produced his own DVD "Run like Hell", is a modern artist, and has also produced his own music CDs. Tollefson, a 5 time NCAA champion at Villanova, represented the US in the 1500 at the Olympics in Athens. A three time US champion, Tollefson won the 1500m at the 2004 Olympic Trials and represented the US at the Athens Olympics. More recently, Tollefson also pulled off a double that likely will never be done again (expecially since the magazines are combining under 1 owner), she appeared on the covers of both Running Times Magazine and Runner's World magazine in the same month. Legendary Kenyan runner Kip Keino came to Ithaca in December of last year and was so warmly received that the community is having him back and holding an elite professional race in his honor. The race will be part of a two day health and fitness weekend that will feature the Borg Warner Fitness Expo on May 12th as well as a VIP dinner open to the pulic featuring Kip Keino on the 12th, and then corporate, masters, and USATF club relays (mostly 4*400s) on the 13th, with of course the Master's, Open, and the culminating elite miles. Funds will be raised for the Kip Keino Foundation, Inc (NYS non-profit) and the Kip Keino School. (For more info on the Kip Keino School visit the Kip Keino Training Center webpage) Famiglietti, Tollefson and 1988 Olympic 1500m champ Peter Rono will be at the Borg Warner Fitness expo on May 12th, so maybe you'll make it to the little town of Ithaca to pay them and us a visit. The prize money for the Kip Keino Miles is as follows: 1st - $1250 If you are interested in coming to Ithaca that weekend either to run (any of the races) or to attend the VIP dinner, please email Rojo. We're helping the race assemble its professional fields. If you are interested in anything else with the event or even want to just donate a check to the foundation, let us know as well. |
