Wow. Nice grab for NAU.
Not shocking -- his brother is there, so that was surely a big draw -- but a tremendous pickup for NAU

I was not aware of that. See, this is why I come to letsrun. Once in a while, someone actually posts something about the sport....

I'm not Bain.
I know Futsum was ready to commit after a long recruiting process. Coach Heins is getting an oustanding runner and person in Futsum. There's already discussions of other Footlocker guys waiting to see what his decision was going to be, and that could influence their decisions next year. Look for NAU to land at least a couple more Footlocker guys next year. Congratulations Futsum!
I believe it was a close call between NAU and Butler. Butler will be dissapointed, they got a good program with some very fast freshman and sophomores, and lost out on a local kid. NAU is a very good school though.
While Butler was one of his five official visits, from what I gather they weren't as high on his list as one may have thought. Either way, he commits to a good running program with a good coach. Excited to see what he can do at the next level.
He only applied to three schools. Butler was one of them. I don't think he was able to get into Butler academically anyway.
Who else is at NAU next year? Are they going to have a strong team, or will that have to wait for a few years from now?
If he is healthy, Futsum will be top 10 at NCAAs next year. 10K XC is perfect for him.
Win-win situation for both NAU and Futsum. NAU gets a top notch recruit while Futsum gets to train at altitude, witha a solid coach, and with his brother on the same team. What person could turn that opportunity down? With the loss of Diego Estrada to graduation, Futsum is exactly what NAU needed to fill in the shoes of the departing Estrada. I really like the situation for both.
Actually, Butler was on the outside looking in. It was Purdue and NAU. Coach Stewart is doing a great job with kids coming in for next year. Family is always tough to pull away from.

This. Purdue, OSU, and NAU from what I've heard. Heard Coach Stewart at Purdue did a fantastic job recruiting him. He is definitely someone willing to put in the work to change that program. Indiana has been too good in recent years to miss out on those types of runners. I for one, hope that changes for him.
NAU also got Nathan Weitz. They got the number 2 and 3 finishers at Footlocker.

That would have been an all-time terrible decision. As a Futsum fan, so glad he made a better choice.
Doesn't he train with low miles, and 1/2 his training on a bike stand?
