Michael Jackson was an incredible entertainer. However, he is/was not the most famous person on the planet. Yes, he was quite famous, but not the most famous.
Among those that I would put ahead of him: Jesus, Mother Teresa, Pope John Paul II, Abe Lincoln, Michael Jordan, Mohamad Ali, Tiger Woods and Barack Obama.
aside from unseen religious figures (jesus, mohamed), michael jackson has to be the most famous person ever. in a time without TV, i doubt hitler was known to as large of a proportion of the world as MJ was/is. i assume like all famous/good/evil people that die, hitler's infamy grew after his death (as more details about the holocaust came out).
think of it this way:
if any of those people you (or the poster before you) mentioned were to be suddenly dropped into any country in the world, who would people immediately recognize? who would people reach out to try to touch? who would people faint over? michael jackson. his music and videos transcended language and culture. you have/had kids all over the world imitating his moves. never has their been, nor will be a more famous person in the world.
