last summer i was working at wendy's and there was this polish couple that worked there. they knew i ran for the local college and so one day the polish guy started telling me how fast he could run. he told me he could run the mile in somewhere around 2 minutes (i don't remember exactly) and that he could run the half mile in about 40 seconds. i tried explaining to him that that was impossible but he insisted he could run those times (and this guy wasn't even a runner). while trying to explain it to him one of the managers comes over and tells me that i shouldn't underestimate polish people cuz "they sure can run fast." i was in awe of the stupidity of these people.
my friend and i were talking to that manager about running another day and we told her what i ran for 3k and that i had the best time in my region for the year. that was true. but then my friend decided to try to convince her that i was going to the olympics. and boy did she bite on that! i guess if she's ignorant enough to believe the story about the 2 minute mile then there's no reason not to believe i'm going to the olympics. she wished me good luck!
