I bet it comes out that he tested positive for Ritalin or some stimulant. Source says it's not a steroid, and they're not testing for HGH? So, it's got to be something in between.

What will Jim Rome have to say about Man Ram today?
Listen up CLONES! Manny has been busted with using performance enhancing drugs. NIIIIICE! Way to go Man-Ram, or should I say NEEDLE-Ram...right in the ASSSSSSSSSS!
I'm sure the Dodgers are pissed. How do you think Lasorda's feeling right about now? The guy bleeds Dodger blue and now this. I'm surprised but I'm not surprised. How many more guuuuuys do we have to see this happen to before we're not surprised anymore? Who's next? Griffey? Albert Pujols? Hell, I think maybe even some of the ball girls are doing 'roids.
"Missy, run after this ball. Oh, I don't know Candy, Missy got that ball pretty quick. She gets to be the ball girl. You can still have a job serving dogs and brew though."
With all the guys turning up positive for performance enhancing drugs, it's starting to make Fred McGriff look a little better...a LOT better actually. He was always my guy who just wasn't QUITE good enough to make the Hall of Fame, but I'm going to have to rethink that. I'm going to have to rethink that. I'll rethink that. Turns out The Crime Dog is the best player not to have used steriods, and Harold Baines is the second best. Who's third? Chris Sabo. Yep. Goggle-wearin' Chris Sabo from the Reds in the late 80s/early 90s. Can you imagine if that were true and Chris Sabo got elected to the Hall of Fame? "Timmy, here's Babe Ruth, and this is Hank Aaron, and here's Frank Robinson...oh, and here's...Chris Sabo!" That would be GREAT! Chris Sabo in the Hall of Fame! That was classic. Rack me!
All right Clones, I'm going to take a brake. For those of you who don't get the third hour, bang your monkey and get that third hour. Just do it. Get that third hour. We're chasing Brett Favre, and Paul Molitor is supposed to call in. See what Molly has to say about Manny.
Jim Rome - LATE!
I'm not so sure that a "disproportionate" number of Latinos have tested positive. The percentage of MLB that is now Latino is quite high and getting higher.
As nonchalant and weird in general playing professional baseball as he is, I would actually believe it if he said he didn't know what he was taking.
..."say NEEDLE-Ram...right in the ASSSSSSSSSS!..."
Got me thinking of a new name: Fanny Ramirez

Not a stimulant. Under the MLB policy, stimulants get counseling for first offense, 25 games for second offense. 50 games is for steroids or similar.
There's nothing stopping Manny from coming forward and saying exactly what he took.
Peter Gammons reports that Manny Ramirez violation was NOT for a steroid.
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4148907
and who cares, with A-Rod admitting he took steroids and how he was the next one to take down Bond's home run record being clean, baseball is in a new era. just not the same anymore. the true legends (i.e. Hank Aaron) made baseball America's Favorite Past Time
and yes, i agree, if Bolt somehow (which i don't believe) got caught using steroids, who knows the impact that would have on our sport.

Manny will never admit it. He's one of the biggest narcissists in baseball. Once again, the Red Sox part ways with a guy just before he becomes a major liability. They seem to have a knack for unloading guys at the right time (Garciaparra, Damon, Pedro, Manny, etc...).
Canseco may be an obnoxious schmuck, but he has been right on this issue. Of course, it's a lot easier to come clean after you're out of the game.

Gammons is simply reporting Manny's explanation. He has no independent source that it wasn't steriods. Get your head out of your ass.
LOS ANGELES – A source close to Manny Ramirez(notes) said Thursday that the illegal substance for which the Los Angeles Dodgers slugger tested positive was not “an agent customarily used for performance enhancing.”
At least not on the baseball diamond. The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the substance is supposed to boost sex drive. It is not Viagra, but a substance that treats the cause rather providing a temporary boost in sexual performance, the source said.
Ramirez tested positive for the substance during spring training, then was administered a second test more recently, and it also was positive. Major League Baseball notified Ramirez of the second positive test after Wednesday night’s Dodgers victory over the Washington Nationals. Ramirez admitted to having taken the substance and declined to appeal. His 50-game suspension begins today.
"...The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the substance is supposed to boost sex drive..."
From the article linked above:
"However, two sources told ESPN's T.J. Quinn and Mark Fainaru-Wada that the drug used by Ramirez is HCG -- human chorionic gonadotropin. HCG is a women's fertility drug typically used by steroid users to restart their body's natural testosterone production as they come off a steroid cycle. It is similar to Clomid, the drug Bonds, Giambi and others used as clients of BALCO."
If that turns out to be true, then all this crap about sex-drive is just Manny's version of "oral sex with my menstruating wife...drank Jack Daniels the night before...the mysterious unborn twin." We can add this to the list seen here:
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=hruby/060801
You can spend just a couple of minutes at any bodybuilding website and learn why HCG is used.
They can't do that. Lance Armstrong is allowed to race his two wheel bicycle and run marathons all he wants and take PEDs. There's precedent. Manny should be allowed the same rights.

Good bye Hall of Fame among other things
I seriously doubt that. By the time he's eligible for the Hall, I think the voters will be a little cooler (or at least more knowledgeable/realistic) about the whole thing. The main guy who's gonna miss the Hall is McGwire, I think--just unlucky timing for him.
Though I hate (truly) the invasions of privacy that would be involved, I think it would be great if the entire report--the one from which ARod's name was leaked--were made public. There would be dozens of potential HofFers on it. I think ARod got a raw deal (and I actually don't give a crap about him or the Yankees).

Yeah...right! A source close to Manny??? Like maybe a member of his posse who's flacking for him? And Manny's not going to appeal to at least get the suspension reduced? 50 games is costing him almost $8 million.
How freakin' gullible can you be? Manny was busted for a PED and his camp is trying to spin it right now to keep him on the Hall of Fame track. Wake up people.
Yeah, you were right about Pete Rose too.
These guys have no shot at making the hall. An entire generation of baseball is thrown down the drain.
Baseball should be on red alert right now.
The way MLB is treating Manny is outrageous. Tiger Woods, Williams sisters, Lance Armstrong, Nick Symmonds, etc. are so obviously doped. The NHL, NFL, USATF, MMA, WWE, etc. all look away. MLB is just putting on a show for Congress by making an example out of Manny who is in L.A. the world capital of media and entertainment. If Manny were in Boston, New York, or San FAGcisco, the MLB would look away.

Red Sox have made some wise dumps, but Damon has been solid last 1.5 years, Derek Lowe, Roger Clemens, and many other former Sox over the years have been solid or even better.
So when is the world going to accept that they are mentally retarded for failing to realize that 95% of athletes doped in the steroid era?
